Word Gone

Word Gone
O blessed word
I cannot find you in my mind.
Did you scamper
down a rabbit trail?
beneath the dirt in my garden?
past the top of my old split top cedar tree
to some far off power pole?
Did your letters get ground to powdery dust with the turmeric in my curry?
If I eat said curry,
can I get you back
and keep you handy for instant recall?
I fear your loss.
My speech is already hesitant
and I fear people will stop listening
when I stall out,
setting aside conversation
to look for you like one lost sheep
that needs to return
so my flock of words
is whole again.
