She paints over people like a poet,
Touches them like flame
– Colors them like smoke
Anonymous, not seeking fame
She finds a life in the lines upon the page.
She’s a miner, finds a lyric in the dark
Says a lonely rhyme to be brave
– by the light of her lantern’s spark
There are jewels in that cave
She finds a life
in the lines upon the page.
Heat rises slowly,
gaining its own speed
Momentum is holy, moves like
flame on broken seed
Breaking open,
breaking free.
She bows for grateful shelter
looks for water in the sand
– Finds a well giving sweet nectar
In a generous woodland
She finds her peace in the lines upon the page
Breaking open,
breaking free.
She finds her peace in the lines upon the page
For Liz.
